Our Trained Bully Puppies
Our trained puppies take all the stress of having a new puppy away 🙂 For many families with busy schedules, the idea of raising a puppy from scratch can be overwhelming. Sleepless nights, constant potty breaks and the challenge of crate and house training can make the early months of puppyhood difficult for you and the new puppy. That’s why our trained American Bully puppies offer an excellent solution. We do the all hard work for you, ensuring that your puppy is well-prepared for a smooth transition into your home.
Socialization of our trained American Bully puppies
The first 4-6 months of a puppy’s life, known as the imprinting stage, are crucial for lifelong development. What a puppy learns during this time sticks with them, shaping their behavior for the future. So, from day one, we focus on handling, socializing and training our American Bully puppies to be confident, well-adjusted companions.
Crate Trained puppies
As soon as our puppies begin eating semi solid food (puppy mush) we start crate training. By feeding them individually in crates, they associate the crate as a safe positive space. This also helps to prevent resource guarding behaviour, a common issue with feeding multiple puppies at once and engaging in the typical highly competitive hungry puppy feeding frenzy.
Potty Trained puppies
Once weaned, our American Bully puppies sleep in crates in our bedroom, gradually transitioning to individual crates. We take them outside every 2-3 hours to a designated area, teaching them to use that spot for bathroom breaks, a huge help in keeping your yard clean, no one likes cleaning up puppy poop that’s all over the yard.
Basic to Advanced Obedience Trained puppies
Training begins with the simple fun activities like food and toy luring which evolve into structured training sessions. By the time your American Bully puppy is ready to join your family (around 6-7 months) they will be house broken, well-socialized, and familiar with basic obedience commands.
Our Best Home Protection Dog Training
A barking Bully is a fearsome sight! Even though we know their bark is way worse than their bite, intruders won’t know that ;).
To prepare our home protection dog puppies, we train advanced obedience and then we add a bark command. We feel a well trained adult American Bully is scary enough looking that a bark command will be plenty enough deterrent for most if not all situations. Then the owner can have a dog that is safe with kids, friends and family without the worry, risk or liability of an accidental bite from a dog that is trained to bite.
So our training continues with a bark command. This is an essential foundation for those looking for their American Bully as a family protection dog, home protection dog or personal protection service dog.
How the Bark Command Underpins the Best Home Protection Dog Training
In fact, when it comes to training puppies for a protection role, the “bark” command is one of the most important foundational tools I use. I’ve seen firsthand how effective this simple command can be, not just in helping a dog alert its handler to potential danger, but also in building the dog’s confidence and control. A well-trained family and protection dog needs to know when to bark, when to stop, and how to handle various situations without hesitation. By working with puppies from an early age, I shape their natural instincts into something much more purposeful and reliable.
Barking training process
The process starts with positive reinforcement, which, in my experience, is the best way to keep the training fun and effective for the puppy. I always look for natural opportunities to introduce the “bark” command—whether it’s during a play session or when someone new approaches. When the puppy barks, I immediately pair that moment with the verbal command “bark” or “speak” and reward them with treats, toys, or plenty of praise. Pretty soon, the puppy starts to connect the dots and begins barking on cue, knowing there’s a reward on the other side of that action.
Now, what I love about this phase of training is that it doesn’t just teach the dog to bark on command—it also builds their confidence. In protection work, confidence is key. You want a dog that’s willing to stand its ground, and a strong, assertive bark is a huge part of that. Once the puppy is comfortable with the command, I start creating scenarios that mimic real-world situations. For example, if someone comes to the door or approaches me, I encourage the puppy to bark in response. They quickly learn that barking isn’t just something they do when they feel like it; it’s a way to alert and protect.
The “OFF” switch!
Of course, barking is only half the equation to the best home protection dog. The next step is teaching the puppy when to stop barking. This is where the “quiet” or “enough” command comes in. It’s important for protection dogs to know when to remain calm after a potential threat is identified. So, once they’ve done their job by barking, I’ll give the “quiet” command, rewarding them when they stop. This teaches the puppy to control their response, and it’s crucial for situations where too much barking could escalate a problem or become a distraction.
Other Home Protection Dog Training
As the puppy progresses, I move into more advanced protection scenarios, gradually introducing situations where their instincts and training come together. For example, if someone tries to enter a space they’re guarding or approaches me in a way that feels threatening, the puppy learns to react with a well-timed bark. Over time, they begin to assess threats and respond accordingly, knowing when to bark and when to hold back.
Training a puppy to respond to the “bark” command isn’t just about creating a dog that makes noise—it’s about building a confident, reliable protector. With consistent practice, I watch these puppies grow into dogs that are ready to defend their handlers and their homes, always alert, and always under control.
